The Angelina County & Cities Health District is a
public health district formed between the county and cities of
Angelina County in 1967. The Health District has had a significant
role in the growth of a health care system in East Texas, located in
Lufkin, that provides care to 12 county draw area in Deep East
Texas.
Through
a management agreement with Memorial Health System, the Health
District is one of the few local health departments in the state of
Texas that have the opportunity to work hand in hand with a local
health system. With this unique situation, the Angelina County &
Cities Health District has grown significantly since the partnership
was formed in 1997. Doubling our staff size to exceed 50 employees,
state of the art facilities in which to provide services, doubling
the financial scope to a $6 million dollar budget, adding an
in-house pharmacy, and actively participating in Public Health
Preparedness activities.
Some of the main Public Health Preparedness
activities of the Health District is region wide Hurricane planning.
After being directly involved in sheltering, evacuation, and medical
service for Hurricane Katrina victims and becoming a disaster site
ourselves with thousands of individuals to shelter and provide
medical service for during Hurricane Rita our preparedness
activities have been honed by real disasters.
Innovative Pandemic Influenza education and community
preparedness activities have taken place throughout 2006 and have
been recognized by the CDC as commendable grassroots efforts. The
Health District with partners, the Center for Biosecurity Houston,
and the Area Health Education Centers, have developed and
distributed throughout the state a Pandemic Flu Preparedness Kit for
communities. Our Tri-County medical community, comprised 4
hospitals, 200+ physicians of all specialties, experienced first
responders and emergency management staff, and a dedicated Public
Health District, are anxious and willing to put together a Medical
Reserve Corp Unit for East Texas. Partners include Memorial Health
System of East Texas, Angelina County & Cities Health District,
Local and Regional Government, Local and Regional Physicians, Burke
Center Mental Health Services, Brookshire Brothers Pharmacies. Real
disasters need real people. |
